piipl is out of beta!

Posted by ezra on May 14, 2009 – Categories: Upgrades

Once again we’ve been working hard on improving your experience of piipl and added a number of cool new features. Here is a brief look at some of the highlights:

The Big News
Piipl is out of beta! If you already have a beta account, it will continue to be free until June 1. After that, you will have to pay to keep it active. Contact us for a subscription plan to meet your needs.

The Canvas tool is a completely new tool that lets you set up a two dimensional space for your participants to organize the observations into. Ask your participants to cluster a selection of photos, or place them on a backgound image of your choice.

Piipl is now available in Danish! Just flip the toggle switch under room settings.

We have a new demo site! It’s about a hospital that is building a new cancer treatment facility and wants to get involvement from staff about the biggest issues and how to address them. You can login as a participant (user name: Martin, password: 1234) or as the host (user name: Ezra, password: 1234). Please don’t save any changes though! We are working on “spying” capabilities, but don’t have them yet.

New Features
Hosts have more control and can delete content that is inappropriate or illegal for the participants to use. This includes observations as well as comments, tags or participants themselves if necessary. Hosts can’t edit participants’ profiles anymore but they can now rotate participants’ pictures.

Automatically store your custom invitation message when you return to send out more invitations. You can always revert back to the default piipl-invite text.

Zoom in and out on every thumbnail by clicking on the small magnifying glass, which opens the photo up in another window and lets you navigate the magnified observation.

Participants can invite themselves from the login page. This is handy if people lose their invitation to the room or it is stuck in their spam filter.

Fixed Bugs
Time zone settings can now be saved for the site as a whole and for each person so you always know when observations were posted.

You can’t poke yourself anymore. We considered putting up a funny error message, such as: “If you really want to poke yourself, avoid the eyes”. But decided it was best just to make it impossible. Just to keep you from hurting yourself.

Known Bugs
Deleting an activity doesn’t delete the observations from that activity that are being used in another activity.

On behalf of the team here at piipl HQ, thanks for all your support and feedback! Please let us know how you like the new features, and of course contact us immediately at help@piipl.net if you come across any problems.

Next09 in Hamburg

Piipl will be pitching at Next09 in Hamburg on May 6th. Hope to see you there!

About Next09:

On May 5 & 6 the next conference is taking place at Kampnagel in Hamburg. Organised by SinnerSchrader, the next conference is one of the most important networking and trend conferences within the European web industry.

There will a hundred international speakers and more than 1500 participants, amongst them will be marketing decision makers of the media, technology and advertising sector, agencies, service providers and start-ups. It is the only conference that unites the Internet community with brands and leading companies.

Share Economy is this year’s theme of next09. This term is shaped by the economy theorist Martin Weitzman. His basic idea: The more we share our success with others, the more we profit ourselves. This applies to humans as well as brands. An outline of the topic and further information can be found in a brief summary of Share Economy.
